The Flavors of Culture

Nike SB Jarritos 74th Anniversary

In 2023, the worlds of sneaker culture and Mexican refreshment collided with the release of the Jarritos x Nike SB Dunk Low. With burlap overlays, citrus-colored accents, and thoughtful co-branding, the collaboration paid homage to the iconic Mexican soda brand while offering a fresh take on a beloved silhouette. The sneakers quickly became a collector's item, praised for both their aesthetic and cultural significance. As an extremely limited quick strike sneaker- and the most limited Nike SB release of that year- this sneaker quickly became extremely saught after by fans of Nike SB and Jarritos. By the time the sneaker hit the mainstream the week of release- pairs had started to climb from the initial ~$400 resell all the way to as high as $800 - $900 in larger sizes. The special box packaging- with Nike SB cobranded Jarritos bottles- continues to stay above $1,000 in aftermarket prices.

Fast forward to 2024: to commemorate their 74th anniversary, Jarritos brought the partnership full circle with a hyper-limited contest that shook the sneaker and art communities. In a celebration titled "Soles Flavored by Culture," Jarritos commissioned six independent artists to create custom, one-of-one Nike SB Dunk Lows, each inspired by a different Jarritos soda flavor. These unique pairs were raffled off in a giveaway that ran through September 16, 2024. Each pair reflected not only the artist's style but also elements of Mexican culture and craftsmanship, pushing the boundaries of sneaker customization.

The contest was more than just a marketing stunt. It launched in late August 2024 and was promoted heavily across Jarritos' social platforms, including Twitter (X) and Instagram. It served as a tribute to the brand's 74-year legacy while fostering community creativity and appreciation for Mexican heritage. The campaign invited fans to celebrate Jarritos' cultural roots by exploring designs rooted in traditional textiles, folklore, and flavors. Open only to U.S. residents aged 18 and older, the raffle was entirely free to enter. Winners would receive their one-of-a-kind pair in their chosen size, made just for them by the collaborating artist. The campaign closed on September 16, 2024, marking the official end of the entry period and beginning the lore of these ultra-rare customs.
