The Eminem sneaker auction closed on August 25, 2026. Julien's Auctions sold 115 of the 117 signed pairs Eminem consigned to benefit the Marshall Mathers Foundation. Add up the 115 published results and they come to $511,040 all-in. Eminem's own figure, posted three days later, was "$400k" — and the gap between those two numbers is the first thing this post explains. I watched the whole thing live and posted results as they came in.
This is the complete record: every lot, every price, and two things about this sale that I haven't seen reported anywhere else.
The first is that the prices you're reading in the headlines aren't the prices anyone bid. The second is that the two most valuable shoes in the entire sale never sold at all — and I watched both of them fail, live, ten minutes apart.
The Eminem sneaker auction in numbers
| Lots sold | 115 |
| Lots that did not sell | 2 |
| Total realized (sum of the 115 published results) | $511,040 |
| Total hammer (what bidders actually bid) | $399,250 |
| Eminem's own figure (X, August 28) | "$400k" — matches the hammer total |
| Figure reported in the press (Complex, August 29) | $485,760 — see below |
| Buyer's premium paid on top (28%) | $111,790 |
| Top lot | $51,200 — twice, a tie |
| Median lot | $2,880 |
| Lots that beat their high estimate | 114 of 115 |
| Both unsold lots stalled at | $12,500 — reserve not met |
Nothing that sold went under its estimate. Not one lot. The floor of the entire sale was $2,240, which was also the low end of what a signature alone was worth on the night.
And then there are the two that didn't sell — which, by the auction house's own estimates, were the two most valuable pairs in the room.
What the Foundation actually receives — and why we're not going to pretend we know
Julien's and every outlet that covered this sale used the same phrase: 100% of the proceeds benefit the Marshall Mathers Foundation. That phrase is doing more work than it looks like, and there are now three different totals in circulation for this one sale.
$511,040 is what buyers paid. It is the sum of the 115 results Julien's published, lot by lot, and every figure in this post is built from those pages. $399,250 is what bidders bid: the hammer total. The $111,790 between them is the 28% buyer's premium, which in an ordinary sale is the auction house's fee and never reaches the seller.
"$400k" is Eminem's number. On August 28 he posted on X: "Thank u to everyone for supporting our auction … we raised $400k all 4 a good cause!!!" That is the hammer total, rounded. In auction language "proceeds" means the consignor's side of the sale — the hammer, less any seller's commission — and "100% of the proceeds" means Julien's waived that commission. The artist's own figure lines up with that reading to within $750. It is the best evidence anyone has of what the Foundation actually receives, and it is the number we'd quote.
$485,760 is the figure Complex reported on August 29, without saying where it came from. We can't reconcile it. It is $25,280 short of the 115 published results, and it isn't the hammer total either. It does divide cleanly by 1.28, to $379,500, so it reads like an all-in figure for a slightly smaller set of lots — about $19,750 of hammer fewer than the results page shows. The most ordinary explanation is that a result or two was struck after the sale, before that total was released. We can't confirm that. What we can say is that the lot-by-lot figures below are exactly what Julien's published, captured on August 27, and if Julien's or the Foundation puts out an official total we'll update this post and say so.
The published prices are not what anyone actually bid
Every price you'll see quoted from this sale — including in my table below — already includes a 28% buyer's premium. That is the auction house's cut, stated on every lot page, added on top of the winning bid. It is not what the bidder said out loud.
I was posting hammer prices live from the sale as they happened, which gives us a clean way to prove it:
| What I posted live | What the site published | Check |
|---|---|---|
| "SOLD for $2,250" | $2,880 | 2,250 × 1.28 = 2,880 |
| "SOLD $1,750" | $2,240 | 1,750 × 1.28 = 2,240 |
It holds all the way to the top of the sale. The Jordan 3s that "sold for $51,200" were hammered at $40,000. Three checks, spanning $1,750 to $40,000, all land on 1.28 exactly.
Why this matters if you're valuing a pair: comparing an auction result that includes a premium against a StockX or eBay sale that doesn't will overstate the auction by 28% every single time. If you want the number that's actually comparable to other sales, divide by 1.28. I've done it for you in the full table — every lot below has both.
The top of the sale
| Lot | Item | Estimate | Hammer | Sold (all-in) | vs high est |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | Air Jordan 3 "Slim Shady" Player Exclusive (Black Tab) | $25,000–$35,000 | $40,000 | $51,200 | +46% |
| 21 | Air Jordan 3 "Slim Shady" Player Exclusive (White Tab) | $25,000–$35,000 | $40,000 | $51,200 | +46% |
| 1 | Stage-Worn and Signed Riyadh "Soundstorm" Nike Air Max 90 | $8,000–$12,000 | $17,500 | $22,400 | +87% |
| 13 | Air Jordan 4 "Encore" Promo | $15,000–$25,000 | $15,000 | $19,200 | within range |
| 19 | Worn Nike Air Trainer 3 | $1,000–$2,000 | $10,000 | $12,800 | +540% |
| 82 | Air Max 90 Ice Sneakerboots | $1,000–$2,000 | $8,000 | $10,240 | +412% |
| 8 | Air Max Wright | $1,000–$2,000 | $5,000 | $6,400 | +220% |
| 2 | Air Max 90 "Ice Halloween" QS | $2,000–$3,000 | $4,500 | $5,760 | +92% |
| 3 | Air Max Wright | $1,000–$2,000 | $4,500 | $5,760 | +188% |
| 32 | Air Max 90 Sneakerboots | $1,000–$2,000 | $4,000 | $5,120 | +156% |
Two Air Jordan 3 "Slim Shady" Player Exclusives tied at exactly $51,200. One with a black heel tab, one with white — the two known variants, both consigned by Eminem, both landing on the identical number. These are the pairs he debuted at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show. Neither has ever had a public release.
That they tied to the dollar is the kind of thing that only happens when two determined bidders hit the same internal ceiling on the same night.
The Encore was the only lot that didn't beat expectations
Of the 115 lots that sold, exactly one failed to clear its high estimate — and it's the shoe most people would have picked to run away with the sale.
Lot 13, the Air Jordan 4 "Encore" Promo, sold for $19,200 against a $15,000–$25,000 estimate. Inside the range. Every other lot in the building went over.
Here's the context that explains it. On August 8, 2026 — seventeen days before this auction — it was widely reported that the Eminem x Air Jordan 4 "Encore" is finally getting a public retail release: style code JJ3098-400, May 2027, around $230, with Game Purple replacing the original's Varsity Red.
For twenty years the Encore was a 50-pair myth. Now there's a date. A room full of bidders who have been chasing that shoe since 2005 suddenly had a reason to wait, and the one lot that should have been the story of the night quietly landed mid-estimate.
That's the whole auction market in one lot: scarcity is a story, and stories can be revised.
The two grails that didn't sell
The catalogue issued lot numbers 1 through 117. Only 115 appear in the results.
The two gaps are lot 9 and lot 17 — and they are the same shoe.
| Lot | Item | Size | Estimate | Bidding stopped at | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9 | Eminem Signed Carhartt x Nike Air Jordan 4 Promo | Men's 11 | $15,000–$25,000 | $12,500 | Reserve not met |
| 17 | Eminem Signed Carhartt x Nike Air Jordan 4 Promo | Men's 10 | $15,000–$25,000 | $12,500 | Reserve not met |
Both carry production code SP15-MNJDLS-879/582314, colorway Blk/Chrome-White, purpose Promo, season Spring 2015, condition As New, hand-signed in gold marker.
I watched both go up. Here is what happened, timestamped from my own posts as the sale ran:
- 1:16pm ET — the first pair opens. Bidding climbs to $12,500 and stops. The listing reads Reserve: Not Met.
- 1:18pm — no further bids. The auctioneer notes, out loud in the room, the name of the college athlete Eminem originally signed and gifted the pair for.
- 1:26pm — the second pair opens.
- 1:27pm — same result. $12,500. No extra bids. Reserve: Not Met.
- 3:45pm — two minutes after the auction closes, both lots come off the listing.
That last part isn't a mystery, and I want to be straight about it rather than make it into one. A lot that fails to meet its reserve doesn't sell. It gets bought in, no result is published, and it comes off the results page. That is ordinary auction procedure and it explains every single thing we can observe: why there's no sold price, why the item pages still load, and why the lot numbers skip.
What's not ordinary is which lots it happened to.
Both pairs stopped at exactly $12,500. Same number, ten minutes apart, on two shoes of different sizes. That's the market telling you, twice, precisely what it thought these were worth — and it was about 17% below the low estimate.
Now hold that against the rest of the night. 114 of the 115 lots that sold beat their high estimate. Signed Air Max Wrights with a $200 retail price and no story attached went for three times what they were valued at. A worn Air Trainer 3 went 540% over.
And the two Carhartt Air Jordan 4s — the most valuable pairs in the building by the auction house's own numbers — couldn't find $15,000.
The box labels name who they were meant for
Here's something that isn't in any coverage of this sale, because it takes reading all 117 lot descriptions to notice.
Exactly three lots in the entire auction carry a note about their box label — and they are the three "Promo" pairs, the most valuable shoes in the sale:
| Lot | Shoe | The box label names |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | Carhartt x Air Jordan 4 Promo, size 11 | college basketball player Charday Hunt |
| 17 | Carhartt x Air Jordan 4 Promo, size 10 | college basketball player Charday Hunt |
| 13 | Air Jordan 4 "Encore" Promo | NFL player Brian Mitchell |
The listing's wording is careful — the label "indicates it may have originally been designated for" that person — and it's worth keeping that hedge. But the pattern is unmistakable. These weren't pairs made for Eminem. They were promo pairs allocated to specific athletes, boxed with their names on the label, that ended up in his vault instead.
The other 114 lots have no such note. Which fits: the rest of the sale is his own rotation — shoes he bought, wore and kept. The three with names on the boxes are the three that came through Nike's promo pipeline, where every pair is earmarked for somebody.
Both Carhartts were labelled for the same person, in two different sizes.
Why that's the most interesting result of the sale
The Carhartt x Air Jordan 4 came out in 2015. Roughly 313 pairs were made and only 10 ever reached the public, through an eBay charity auction — one of which famously realized $227,552. The rest went into Marshall's own vault to be handed out to friends and artists over the years.
So a Carhartt AJ4 consigned by Eminem himself is about as clean as provenance gets on this shoe. On paper these should have been the lots of the night.
Two things worked against them, and both are worth understanding if you buy at auction:
The estimate was the ceiling, not the floor. Set a $15,000–$25,000 range and you tell every bidder in the room what the house thinks it's worth. The lots that exploded were the ones estimated at $1,000–$2,000, where no figure had anchored the room and the signature was pure upside. Price a lot honestly at the top of the market and there's no room left for a bidding war.
Depth disappears fast above five figures. Nearly every lot in this sale cleared under $6,000. That's a wide pool of buyers. At $15,000 you need two people in the same room, on the same night, who both want the same shoe badly enough — and on August 25 there was only ever one.
None of which means these pairs aren't worth it. It means an auction is a snapshot of who happened to be in the room. Two pairs that couldn't find $12,500 on a Tuesday are the same two pairs that a private sale, a year from now, with the right buyer, prices very differently.
What the sale actually tells you about the market
Eminem's collection is a wearer's collection, not a curator's. Fifty of the 115 lots — 43% of the entire sale — were Air Max Wrights or Wright 3s. Not grails. His actual rotation, over and over, in bulk. The single most interesting thing this auction revealed is that one of the most sought-after sneaker collections on earth is mostly one shoe he genuinely liked.
The Wrights averaged $3,085. Which is to say: a signature was worth roughly $2,000–3,000 on a shoe that would otherwise be a couple hundred dollars.
Provenance beat condition, decisively. Look at the five highest-priced lots in the sale. Two of them are shoes he actually wore.
- 1st and 2nd: the two Jordan 3 "Slim Shady" PEs, $51,200 each
- 3rd: the stage-worn Riyadh "Soundstorm" Air Max 90 — $22,400
- 4th: the Air Jordan 4 "Encore" Promo — $19,200
- 5th: a worn Nike Air Trainer 3 — $12,800, against a $1,000–$2,000 estimate
That Air Trainer 3 is the single biggest overperformer of the entire auction at +540% over its high estimate. It is, on paper, an ordinary pair of Air Trainer 3s. What it has is wear — his wear.
Here are the eight lots that beat their high estimate by the widest margin:
| Lot | Item | Condition | High est | Sold | vs high est |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 19 | Worn Nike Air Trainer 3 | Worn | $2,000 | $12,800 | +540% |
| 82 | Air Max 90 Ice Sneakerboots | Deadstock | $2,000 | $10,240 | +412% |
| 117 | Adidas Ultra Boost 1.0 | Deadstock | $1,200 | $4,480 | +273% |
| 16 | Air Max 95 | Deadstock | $800 | $2,880 | +260% |
| 8 | Air Max Wright | Deadstock | $2,000 | $6,400 | +220% |
| 25 | PUMA Palace Guard OG Retro "Detroit Pistons" | Deadstock | $1,200 | $3,840 | +220% |
| 27 | PUMA Palace Guard OG Retro "Detroit Pistons" | Deadstock | $1,200 | $3,840 | +220% |
| 33 | Adidas Superstar 1 | Deadstock | $1,200 | $3,840 | +220% |
Note what that table also shows: it isn't only the worn pairs that ran. Sneakerboots, Palace Guards and a Superstar all tripled their estimates. When the estimate is low enough, the signature alone does the work. But at the top of the sale, where real money changed hands, the pairs with a night attached to them are the ones that placed.
Deadstock commodity pairs with the same signature sat near $2,500. Wear didn't hurt these — it's the thing that made them his.
The brand tax is real, even on a charity signature sale. Identical signature, identical provenance, identical event:
| Brand | Lots | Average |
|---|---|---|
| Nike / Jordan | 99 | $4,693 |
| adidas | 5 | $3,264 |
| PUMA | 11 | $2,735 |
Same pen, same hand, same night — and the Swoosh carried about a 70% premium over PUMA. Collectors say they're buying the artist. The numbers say they're buying the artist and the logo.
The floor was higher than the ceiling was low. Four lots cleared $19,000. The other 111 sat between $2,240 and $12,800. There's no middle in this market: you're buying a grail with a story, or you're buying a signature.
Which brings me back to something I said during the sale, watching a mixed-bag lot go by — Eminem signed, USA colors, an OG hip-hop silhouette, but no real narrative attached to it:
Story is what takes those pairs from grail to historical.
Every number in the table below argues the same thing.

Where this sits in the bigger picture
If you want the full history behind these shoes — the 2005 Encore and its 50 pairs, the Charity Series limited to 8 pairs each, the Jordan 2 "The Way I Am" numbered to 313 for Detroit, the Carhartt story in full — we've kept a running timeline of every Eminem sneaker collaboration from 2003 to now.

We've been collecting and tracking this corner of sneaker history for years, and we keep our own Eminem and Slim Shady collection — signed pieces, comics and vinyl.
Work like this post is what Project Legit Check exists for: our long-form record of sneaker history, production details and release context. If this sale just repriced a pair you own, that archive is where we keep the receipts — and we take consignment if you'd rather we handled the sale.

Prices sourced from the Julien's Auctions listing for the Marshall Mathers Foundation Auction, captured August 27, 2026. Total-raised figures quoted above: Eminem's post on X, August 28, 2026 ("$400k"); Complex, August 29, 2026 ($485,760). The listing states a 28% buyer's premium on every lot; hammer figures here are derived at that rate and verified against three results posted live during the sale. The $12,500 figures and "Reserve: Not Met" status for lots 9 and 17 are from the live listing, recorded during the auction on August 25, 2026 — both lots were removed from the results page after the sale closed.
